CHAPTER 1
UNIT 1
There are 4 elements of basic information about breathing for the kaval: Lip, Breath, Finger and Tongue...

*Holding the kaval in the right position on your lips is the first step to get right sound from kaval… It could be take long time to hear proper kaval's tone with adaptation of lips. The important thing is to hold the kaval in a right way when kaval is on your lips. So You can get remarkable vocal range spanned from full to half octaves when you are using your lips. Also you can play other range of kaval's tone (like horlatma). (Estimate of lips gap (big or small) is a sensitive issue. Don't try too much…) *The right way that using your breath, in other words to blow the kaval rationally is ensure that kaval produces the correct sounds when played. And You can play long song with short breath. When you blow quick or slow, combine with lips movement, It will provide you up and down octaves. If you blow very small area of kaval hardly, It will bring you sharp tone.

*With finder movement, You can play melody and also rhythmic sound of the melody, strike, vibration and agility (You can play small period of notes quickly) (When we are playing kaval, these 3 factor must be combine, promoter and developer. Master piper who can use and change these 3 factor at the same time like reflex action. They are a person who can do all these things perfectly…)

*With tongue movement, You can achieve all sorts of musicial notes and also can do some types of local-accented expression.

(P.S:In Anatolia instead of put the kaval on lips, they are putting the kaval upper tooth. So that It can be played “horlatma” tone's.

UNIT 2
TYPES OF TONE AT KAVAL:
1. Straight Tone: This is the simple tone.
2. Pest tone: When you blow a tone straightly, this tone under the thick tone.
3. Horlatma: Known as dirty tone, can be named ‘ shephards tone'...In our country This style of playing can be played, especially Tokat, Bolu and some east of Turkey's cities. And also part of Balkans and Black Sea.
4. Harmonic tone: It can be heared straight and half octave at the same time.

UNIT 3
ACHIEVING VIBRATION (It will be began further stages.):
1. With lips position: Usually This method can be played by Master of the reed flute. But It could be tryed with kaval…It can be played by slow lips movements.
2. With Finger Movement: The area of where fingers puts onto kaval's hole, especially movement of left and right forefinger's swings.
3. Swing's with kaval: When you hold the kaval with your two hands, this movement can be done by close to far from your lips slowly.
4. It's possible with support of breath: Movement is when you blow your breath to kaval's edge by one after another and speedily.

UNIT 4
HOLDING THE KAVAL:
Close the kaval's holes with your all left fingers. It mustn't take air. (Left hand must be up. With your first finger, close the single hole at the back. And then close the holes each of fingers (index finger, middle finger, ring finger) from up to down in turn. Right hand's thumb doesn't close any hole; You just need it when you holds the kaval from back. From up to down holes, after the left hand's three fingers, close the other holes with your right hand's index finger, middle finger and ring finger. It must be with your middle joint, not edge. Lower hole is closed by little finger's edge.

KAVAL POSITION:
Basically, Kaval's major sound is allowed with la musical notes. (La minor key or La major)... La is the musical notes that can be done by right hand's little finger when it's not on the kaval's hole.(It's means that only lower hole is open)…This isn't nature la notes(piyano's la). But It's size long or short; It's allowed that this is the la notes for all sort of kavals... And this position's name is Second Position…(We'll study about this subject regularly) First position is when the all holes closes with your fingers. This position is allowed la minor.

UNIT 6
KAVAL'S NOTES GAPS;
Now I'm going to number all kaval's hole from down to up in turn (1,2,3,4,5,6, etc.)
Between First hole and Second hole is as full sound as piano. (For example, like sol and la's gap.)
As from second gap, (2-3, 3-4, 4-5 etc.) notes gap's goes half tone…That is to say between second and third gap is la-si flat, between third and fourth gap is si flat-si, between fourth and fifth gap is si-do etc. goes like that… Accept as la notes was; It sounds la notes, when It's straight tone. If you blows little bit harder, You will be able to hear mi notes...If you blow shrill again, You'll finally get the high-pitched la...
So; From one notes, If you blow different hardness of breathing tecnigue, You will be able to hear three same notes...
